How to setup a blog and be popular
I got an email today, it read “I love this blog thing, pls how can I have something like this? How will i be able to attract people to my blog?” My reply has turned into this post. Please join the conversation if you have more tips.
- Start simple. Register with one of the free blog providers like blogger or worpress. This means you don’t have to worry any of the technical wits of setting up the blog.
- Focus on a few topics. No point repeating BBC news every time. Try to put an angle on the news. Your audience will be interested in what you think. Take Bella Naija for example, she focuses on African fashion, Naija music and celebrities.
- Do your research. This is important. Don’t write stuff you can’t back up. You’ll quickly lose credibility. Chippla does his research and it reflects when he writes.
- Read other blogs and be inspired. Contribute comments to posts on those blogs.
- Join webrings or groups of common interest. e.g Nigerian Bloggers and 9rules
- If you think others will find your post useful, post it on Digg or Muti.
Keeping writing, someday someone will realise how amazing your blog is and you will be popular.

Don’t forget to say that it takes time for a blog to catch on. I waited for one year (It also didnt help that I didnt want any publicity during that time) but after joining a web ring the numbers took some time but started coming in hard and fast.

ahhh wise one. Also advertise to your friends and on your messenger and insert a link in your signatures via email.
And find tools that make blogging easy. I have enjoyed using Flock.

I happened to stumble across ur blog when I was searching for stuffs on the political aspirants for the 2007 Nigerian election.
I must say to own a blog isnt a days job.
When I started http://queenzy.wordpress.com I didnt know what to write about till I began to read wide and began to write my thoughts on poverty, children, women, the disabled, and so many other things including my personal life.
I got indexed by google in just two months.
Though I must admit I did alot of work, I stayed awake all night submitting my blog to blog directories online.
I must say that one other factor is researching carefully before making a post, and to own a blog, you must be able to have your stand.
I have enjoyed reading your blog Aderemi.
