ADEREMI'S NOTEBOOK

6 December 2005

Nigeria homecoming

After making so much noise about my plans to tour the world (Ok I did go to Spain), I finally picked up a ticket to Nigeria. Who plans to go to Singapore and Malaysia, then books a ticket to Nigeria? Well me. My defence - I was hoping my bank manager at NatWest would not authorise the transaction. He did.

7years and finally returning to see what has changed in my beautiful country. I am very excited but a little nervous. Started practising my “broken english (pidgin)” again after years of misplaced Queen’s English speaking. As friends will testify, “This guy too dey blow fone”. I have been reading Lagos Live religiously.

Everyone in my family thinks I will get bored. 28 days is a long time, so they tell me. I fly out later this week, still unpacked. As you would expect, my people have started sending me stuff to carry for them.

I think it would be cool to meet up with other Nigerian bloggers in Lagos. Ideas are welcomed!

Omo, you suppose drop dat fone before you reash Lagos o - dem go just sme-sme you tire!

And yes, the novelty will wear off by about day 4, our friends at the National Electric Power Authority will see to that. Funny how nothing about their service is national, authoritative, powerful, or anything to do with the supply of electricity. But it’ll definitely be an unparalleled anthropological experiment. It’s a flawed place, but we love it anyway. Just try not to let the evangelicals depress you too much. Looking forward to reading about your adventures! =)

You people leave naija and stay here as slave/second citizens only to start behaving like they are going to kill you whenever you got home.Is that not where your fathers and fathers-’s fathers were born?

Forget about the foreing passports we carry. When ”push comes to shove” every body knows where he or she is from. The owners of the land knows themselves as well.

Naija does not miss you,nor anyone at all.Its a lovely beautiful place.no need for u guy’s unfair comparison.Go home rather than slave away here and thinking you are cool. I see more crimes commited in Europe than we could ever dream of in naija. So what is your stupid logic all about, I am naija,I am proud of it,just here to claim what belongs to me.I go go back home, amenities or none.

Lucky you!

Have a good time while u’re in Naija - trust me NEPA can be a blessing in disguise, some on the funniest moments i remember happened when NEPA ’ took the lights’.

Oh I am back in london now. Don’t let them catch saying NEPA…..it’s now called Power holding Corp of Nigeria (PHCN).

As they now say, ”the company that holds or witholds power”

I am visiting Naija in approximately 2 months time (for my wedding). i’m a bit nervous and very excited. i loved checking out your site and photos, it reminded me of all the fun at home.

Does anyone know how to plan a wedding from Australia? i’m not finding it easy.
