ADEREMI'S NOTEBOOK

30 April 2004

Class C

The debate to legalise cannabis in the UK has been going on for sometime. Cannabis was been downgraded from Class B to C, which means police will no longer automatically arrest those caught in possession of it. Although I have not smoked it before, I once attempted in invest in GW Pharma, a company that actually produces the cannibis for medical use ofcourse - lets just say I was not impressed with their business model. However I came across a website promoting the legalisation of the Cannabis and are apparently organising a protest on the 8th May 2004 in London. As I reading through the site, I found a few things.

Cannabis is a substance which affects the way you think and feel. Sometimes you’ll enjoy the experience and sometimes you wont.

…Cannabis does not suit everyone. It may make you feel sleepy, lethargic or paranoid. For a very few individuals it may have more serious consequences and we urge you to read our section on cannabis effects and to do a thorough search on Google before deciding to experiment.

Surely we don’t really want to legalise something that has such harmful, ok sleepy is ok but paranoid.

Smoking cannabis releases substances like tar and carbon monoxide which are harmful to your health.

This is interesting because in the Cannabis introduction, it states that “The health risks are undoubtedly fewer than with alcohol or tobacco”.

Never buy cannabis from the street. Try to find someone you trust, if you can’t trust them don’t buy it. Chances are you’ll be ripped off anyway.

So I suppose Tesco should be next stop.

Another thing is how they chose to use quotes all over the site from famous highly regarded individuals (mostly) to substantiate their position. Overall good site for information on cannabis.

Well they are promoting legislation which is wired because on the site the negatives outweigh the postive.

……………didya just mirror my thoughts??

Remi May 4th, 2004 at 6pm

Surprising I did. I just read this now. It must be the summer blues kicking in.

Back to the Class C website, I think they believe humans are rational and if given enough information - will use the information to their advantage. Hence the detailed risk assessment of the Cannibis. Having stated the risk, I guess their position is that everyone has have a right to decide whether or not they want to use the drug just like alcohol and cigerattes simply put legalise cannibis.

hey man, ’sup? like the quote on your site says, “freedom isn’t free unless it includes the right to do wrong.” (paraphrased). i guess that’s why God gave us’ll free will, even though it does mean we might turn against Him. if you can, head up to Up Words. catch you.

Hey Remi,
I support your position on the issue. At least the argument on the website is presented fairly objectively and allows the reader to make an informed decision. Free will is indeed a blessing for the wise and a curse for the foolish.
