Nigerian Children (2)

“One of the great minds of the Information Age is a Nigerian American named Philip Emeagwali. He had to leave school because his parents couldn’t pay the fees. He lived in a refugee camp during your civil war. He won a scholarship to university and went on to invent a formula that lets computers make 3.1 billion calculations per second. Some people call him the Bill Gates of Africa.

But what I want to say to you is there is another Philip Emeagwali — or hundreds of them — or thousands of them — growing up in Nigeria today. I thought about it when I was driving in from the airport and then driving around to my appointments, looking into the face of children. You never know what potential is in their mind and in their heart; what imagination they have; what they have already thought of and dreamed of that may be locked in because they don’t have the means to take it out….”

Nigerian Wedding II (0)

I know I need to stop posting one liners/quotes in my blog, it caused a certain amount of confusion in my last post. Notwithstanding, rarely does one find a site like 2-be-one. It is based in Nigeria and specialises in ensuring that newly married couples have lasting memories of the greatest day (aka wedding day) of their lifes. Check out the personalised pages, gives some information as to how the couple met each other along with photos from the wedding. Interesting stuff.

Still on the subject of Weddings, I found this guy, - possibly the best wedding photographer I have seen. (via sore eyes)

Martin Luther King Said (7)

Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another.
-Martin Luther King, Jr., 1957

Brian Adams Said (0)

Learn the art of patience. Apply discipline to your thoughts when they become anxious over the outcome of a goal. Impatience breeds anxiety, fear, discouragement and failure. Patience creates confidence, decisiveness, and a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success.

More Education, Businesses says No (0)

It is interesting that as much as we all wanted more people to be educated, the businesses have said increasing this number will reduce the quality of graduates been produced. I don’t think the quality will drop, more like the businesses will more graduates to interview and may find difficulty in choosing the right candidates. Of course if the present recruiting system fails them by not getting the best blood into the business, they must review the procedure and not stand in the way of development of the society which would be enhanced by having more educated people.

A Dutch Man is made King in Ghana (0)

Mr. Arthur Paes said

About 11 years ago I was invited to Ghana for a visit by King Bansah of Hohoe. Half a year later he asked me to be the Consul of Hohoe and I did. I was the Consul for about 8 or 9 years. After that I knew Ghana very well and also the area of the Volta Region, and then the king of that area was dead and they asked me to be the new king of the area of Somey. Normally, they would not invite anyone from outside, but the people of Somey and the Paramount Chief of Somey along with their lawyer made an exception to the rule to allow me to become their king. The people asked me to do that, and I said Okay. He was enstooled as king of Somey Area on 14th July 2001.

A Nigerian Wedding (10)

4

Yesterday I attended my Aunty’s wedding. However, instead of giving a detailed post, here is the wedding in black and white. I managed to keep track of myself and put together a few photos. I was not at the church service because my cousin and I volunteered to help setup the reception, hence the lack of photos from the church service.
